History: Imhotep was the most respected priest of Osiris and most trusted servant of the current pharaoh, Seti I. However, he was also in a secret affair with the pharaoh's mistress, Anck-Su-Namun. After killing the pharaoh to preserve their secret, Anck committed suicide upon being confronted by the guards, hoping that Imhotep would resurrect her. He almost did with the help of the Book of the Dead until he was apprehended. His followers were mummified while Imhotep got his tongue cut off, and was forever cursed with immortality by the Hom Dai. He then got placed into a sarcophagus filled with flesh-eating scarabs, and it is said that releasing him from his tomb will unleash the Plagues of Egypt again. Then someone accidentally read a page from the Book of the Dead. Imhotep has risen...
Notable Kills: Nothing special...except when he starts taking away the parts of others for himself!
Final Fate: The first time, Imhotep is prevented from sacrificing someone for his love after a reading from the Book renders him mortal and cast into the River of Death. Then he's resurrected again by a cult wanting him to kill the Scorpion King so that they can control the Army of Anubis. But while he manages to resurrect Anck-Su-Namun, she coldly abandons him at his most desperate hour. His resolve utterly broken, he decides to let himself fall into the Underworld as everything crumbles around him.
Powers/Abilities: Immortality, manipulation of reality, and the ability to resurrect certain people, such as his old followers.
Weakness: The Book of the Dead can bring him down to mortal. Also, cats freak him out.
Scariness Factor: 3.5-Sadly, some off-kilter CGI ruins a lot of the scenes where his shambling, rotted corpse takes the front stage. Most of the time, he's a deceptively handsome Egyptian with a mean magic streak. Then again, you have to pity him for his goals. Nothing hurts more than a broken heart.
Trivia: -Imhotep was played by Arnold Vosloo, who loved his role, and really supported the idea that the Egyptian heretic was the protagonist of his own romantic story, even if it ended tragically.
-The real Imhotep was actually much nicer and in no way driven mad by love. He is often credited with inventing step-type pyramids and the stone column. His greatest achievement was his practices with medicine, to the point where his people deified him for it after his death.
